Wastewater

  • The Clean Water Act was established in 1972 to restore and maintain the integrity of the nation’s waters. The CWA regulated “direct discharges” (i.e. directly to surface waters) through the National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) program and “indirect discharges” (i.e. discharges to Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTW) through the pretreatment program.

The Georgia Environmental Protection Division (GA EPD) regulates discharge of wastewater in Georgia. Georgia Southern identifies and implements best practices in its management of its wastewater program. Any project that will involve wastewater discharge must be reviewed by the EHS department prior to the commencement of the project.
