Lead-Based Paint
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) defines lead as a natural occurring element found in small amounts in the earth’s crust. Though it has beneficial uses, it has been found to be toxic to humans and animals. Lead is a pollutant regulated by many laws and administered by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD). In 1977, The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a final ban on lead-containing paint and on toys and furniture coated with such paint.
Environmental Health and Safety provides regulatory guidance and investigates environmental or safety concerns on all campuses. Georgia Southern University adheres to EPA and EPD regulatory requirements and follows best practices for managing lead-based paint.
