Climate Action Plan

In December of 2007, Georgia Southern’s President Bruce Grube signed the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment (ACUPCC). In 2011, President Brooks Keel re-signed the ACUPCC agreement demonstrating a firm belief in the power of higher education in shaping a sustainable society. By becoming a signatory of the ACUPCC, the university has re-committed its efforts to: “meeting the goals and objectives of the ACUPCC, while continuing our focus on becoming a regional leader in sustainability and renewable energy.” – President Brooks Keel. In 2015, Second Nature rebranded and expanded the AUPCC to form the President’s Climate Leadership Commitments. In 2017, Georgia Southern Statesboro campus was awarded an Honorable Mention in Climate Leadership by Second Nature.

Georgia Southern Statesboro campus developed a Climate Action Plan (CAP) that aids the university in reducing its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions on an ongoing basis. We have made sustainability a primary focal point in design, construction, maintenance, operations and procurement practices. We have organized our operational plans and sustainability initiatives to align with the university’s Campus Master Plan. This streamlines sustainability actions into normal operations. Climate Action plans for Armstrong campus and Hinesville campus are being developed.
